Global passenger-processing outage knocks out self check-in at Singapore's Changi Airport
The problem began at about 8:30 a.m. and check-in returned to normal around 11 a.m., Changi Airport Group told The Straits Times and AsiaOne, adding that other airports were similarly affected. Some airlines checked passengers in by hand. Affected carriers included Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, Scoot and Xiamen Airlines, the outlets reported, and Scoot said its check-in was disrupted for 45 minutes.
Advance Passenger Processing collects and validates travelers' immigration details and authorization at the point of departure, AsiaOne reported. The Straits Times said no flights appeared to be delayed as a result on the airport's flight information page.
Why it matters: Airlines use the system to clear passengers' travel documents with border authorities before boarding, so an outage can push check-in back to slower manual counters.
