Israeli forces pull out of Hebron after operation launched over the killing of two soldiers

The army began the operation after two Palestinian gunmen attacked a checkpoint near Hebron on October 23, killing two Israeli soldiers, AFP and Al Jazeera reported. Israeli forces later killed the two attackers, according to Al Jazeera and Anadolu Agency. An Israeli military official told AFP that soldiers had detained suspects, confiscated four weapons and demolished the attackers' homes.

The Hebron Governorate said more than 3,300 Palestinians were displaced or otherwise affected and 15 homes and other structures were demolished, Anadolu Agency and Al Jazeera reported. AFP journalists saw residents returning to damaged and ransacked homes on Monday.

Why it matters: Hebron is the largest city in the occupied West Bank, AFP noted, and the military official said counterterrorism activities across the territory would continue.
