Sen. Chris Murphy hospitalized after stroke, office says
Murphy, 53, began experiencing numbness in his arm at his son's hockey game and was taken to a local hospital, where doctors found he had had a stroke, chief of staff Allison Herwitt said in a statement reported by AP and CBS News. He was then transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring.
"The doctors are encouraged by his progress, he is awake and alert, and we are optimistic he will make a full recovery," Herwitt said.
Why it matters: Murphy is one of the Senate's more visible Democrats and had been campaigning for Democratic candidates ahead of Tuesday's midterm elections.
