Iran holds third day of talks with Qatari mediators on ending war with US

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said the talks were "ongoing and progressing" but that no final conclusion had been reached, Reuters reported. Xinhua, citing Al Jazeera, reported that Araqchi said Tehran currently has no plans to meet US officials while consultations with mediators continue.

President Donald Trump has said the US will not launch new attacks on Iran before the Nov. 3 midterm elections, though he has not ruled out further military action afterward, according to Reuters. Araqchi was quoted as saying a proposal had been developed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days of any agreement with Washington.

Why it matters: The eight-month-old war continues to disrupt global oil supplies, and the talks are the main diplomatic track ahead of the US vote.
