Rep. Thomas Massie says he will force House vote on impeaching Defense Secretary Hegseth week of Nov. 9

Massie's draft resolution has eight articles, including allegations that Hegseth violated the War Powers Resolution, according to Roll Call. Massie plans to offer it as a privileged resolution, which would require the speaker to schedule action within two legislative days.

Massie, who lost his primary and is leaving Congress, told Roll Call he gives the measure "better than a 50 percent chance" of passing. The allegations have not been tested by any committee or court.

Why it matters: The House has impeached a Cabinet member only twice, most recently Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in 2024; the Senate dismissed those charges without a trial.
