Houthi attacks have canceled 86% of Riyadh flights this month as airport partly reopens

Domestic flights resumed from Terminal 1 and Saudi national carriers were allowed to fly international services from Terminal 2, Reuters reported. The Houthis said they attacked the airport again on Monday; Saudi Arabia said air defenses intercepted a ballistic missile fired toward Riyadh, CNA reported. Across the kingdom, more than 7,800 flights, or 45% of scheduled departures, were canceled between Oct. 8 and Oct. 25, according to Cirium.

International airlines have suspended Riyadh service into November, and Delta Air Lines has postponed the launch of its Riyadh route until next year, Reuters reported. The US Embassy said Jeddah and Dammam airports are operating with some delays and cancellations, and that land border crossings, including the King Fahd Causeway to Bahrain, remain open.

Why it matters: Travelers to Saudi Arabia face continuing cancellations. The State Department ordered non-emergency US government staff and their families to leave the country effective Oct. 23.
