US extends Regeneron Ebola treatment supply deal through 2031
The agreement extends US stockpiling of Inmazeb, a three-antibody treatment the FDA approved in 2020 for infection caused by Zaire ebolavirus, Regeneron said Monday. Reuters reported the deal amid the growing outbreak in Africa.
Inmazeb is not approved for the Bundibugyo species behind the current outbreak, which has no approved specific treatment or licensed vaccine. Regeneron said it is testing an experimental therapy, maftivimab, as a potential Bundibugyo treatment.
Why it matters: The deal secures US supply of an existing Ebola drug, but that drug does not cover the strain driving the current outbreak.
