Kenya bus-truck crash kills at least 22 on Nairobi-Mombasa highway

The bus was taking passengers home from a pastor's funeral when it hit an oncoming truck near Mtito Andei in Makueni County, AP and Al Jazeera reported; Al Jazeera later put the toll at 24. Makueni County Commissioner Abdullahi Khalif told The Standard newspaper the driver had tried to overtake several vehicles.

Kenya's National Transport and Safety Authority said the stretch is a designated accident black spot, according to AP.

Why it matters: The crash adds pressure on the government, which has promised a road safety crackdown on the highway linking Nairobi with the coastal city of Mombasa.
