Universal Music licenses songs to AI gaming music service TYGER
Under the deal, select recordings and songs from UMG's recorded music and publishing catalogs will be offered through TYGER's paid subscription, and some recordings will also be on its free, ad-supported tier, according to the announcement and Music Business Worldwide. TYGER lets players run licensed music alongside supported games without the game studio having to integrate it.
TYGER said it currently offers more than 400,000 songs, mostly from independent artists, and plans to relaunch later this year after adding UMG content.
Why it matters: The agreement gives a major label's catalog a new licensed route into gaming as music companies set terms for AI-based uses of their songs.
