Three dead, including the suspect, and two deputies critically wounded in shooting near Spokane

Deputies responded at about 2:25 p.m. after a woman ran to a neighbor's house and said her brother had shot her, Nowels said. Deputies used a drone and found a person dead in the yard. When SWAT members and deputies tried to break down the door of the home, they were met with gunfire; another person was found dead inside, and the suspect was later found dead, according to the sheriff.

The woman who fled had wounds that were not life-threatening, The Spokesman-Review reported. Spokane police are leading the homicide investigation, the Washington State Patrol is reviewing the deputies' use of force, and the deputies who fired were placed on administrative leave, KHQ reported. Nowels said there is no threat to the public and did not name the suspect.

Why it matters: No law enforcement officer has been shot and killed in Spokane County since 1983, The Spokesman-Review reported, and both deputies remained in critical condition.
