Voters back abortion-rights measures in Nevada and Virginia, add photo ID rules and reject Missouri's new congressional map

Missouri voters also rejected a Republican-backed measure that would have removed abortion-rights language added to the state constitution in 2024, while Idaho voters rejected a measure that would have created a right to abortion in state law, NBC News reported. Nearly 150 measures were on ballots in more than three dozen states.

In Maryland, voters approved an amendment allowing Democrats to redraw the state's congressional map, and Washington state voters rejected a repeal of the state's 9.9% tax on income over $1 million, NBC News reported. California's Proposition 40, a proposed tax on billionaires, was trailing with votes still being counted, according to NBC News.

Why it matters: The results directly set state law on abortion, voting rules and taxes, and the Missouri and Maryland votes affect how congressional districts are drawn in those states.
