Italian helicopter with EU force crashes in Bosnia, killing four

EUFOR said the Chinook went down in the Gorice area near Brčko on Thursday evening. Two of the dead were members of the Italian armed forces and two were from the Italian Military Red Cross, it said. Two of the injured were moved to a hospital in Tuzla and nine were treated in Brčko, and all were in stable condition, according to EUFOR. Euronews and AP reported that no civilians were hurt.

The cause of the crash has not been established, Euronews reported. EUFOR asked the public to rely on its official channels and avoid speculation.

Why it matters: EUFOR's roughly 1,200-strong mission has operated in Bosnia since 2004 under a UN Security Council mandate to help oversee the military provisions of the peace agreement that ended the 1992-95 war, Euronews reported.
