Frontier's average fare jumps 71% as the budget airline posts record revenue but a quarterly loss
Passenger numbers rose 18% to more than 9.8 million, CNBC reported. Frontier posted a net loss of $104M, which included a $134M charge tied to returning some Airbus aircraft; excluding one-time items, it reported an adjusted profit of $40M. Its fuel bill rose 82% to $425M, CNBC said.
Frontier forecast a fourth-quarter result ranging from an adjusted loss of 15 cents per share to adjusted earnings of 5 cents per share.
Why it matters: Frontier is the largest US budget airline after Spirit's collapse in May, and its results show how much of the jump in jet fuel prices carriers are passing on to travelers.
