Samsung Electronics posts record 107.4 trillion won quarterly operating profit on AI memory demand

Samsung said it became the world's first tech company to top 100 trillion won in quarterly operating profit, according to its earnings release. Its chip division, Device Solutions, earned 106.5 trillion won of that on revenue of 147.1 trillion won, as memory revenue and profit hit records on AI demand and higher sales of HBM4 high-bandwidth memory. The mobile and appliance divisions posted a combined operating loss of 0.8 trillion won. Operating profit rose 783.11% from a year earlier, CNBC reported, and net profit rose 514.6% to 75.13 trillion won, Yonhap reported.

The company declared a third-quarter dividend totaling 30 trillion won, or 4,601 won per share, and said it expects to return a remaining 55 trillion to 75 trillion won to shareholders for 2026, including buybacks. CNBC said the profit was broadly in line with LSEG SmartEstimates.

Why it matters: Samsung said it expects AI-driven memory demand in 2027 to far exceed industry supply. A day earlier, rival SK hynix also reported record profit.
