Judge extends block on changes to D.C.'s East Potomac golf course; Trump says administration will appeal
Reyes ruled Monday after the government cut down 430 trees at the public golf course earlier this month, NPR reported. "Rarely, if ever, has the United States Department of Justice urged a federal court not to believe the sitting president," she wrote in a 70-page opinion. The plaintiffs are the DC Preservation League and two golfers.
Trump wrote late Monday that construction would begin Nov. 15 and keep the park closed for 15 months. On Tuesday, Reyes gave the government about 24 hours to say whether such a closure plan exists, NPR reported.
Why it matters: The ruling slows Trump's plan to rebuild a public course in the capital, and the president's public timeline now has to be squared with what government lawyers tell the court.
