15-year-old charged in Florida A&M homecoming shooting; prosecutor will seek adult trial
The teen was arrested Sunday and charged with attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a delinquent, police said, according to AP. State Attorney Jack Campbell said he will prosecute the case in adult court, and a judge ordered the teen to have no contact with victims or witnesses at a detention hearing Monday, WTXL reported.
Police said a fight broke out before the shooting and that none of the victims appeared to be an intended target. Eleven people were hit by gunfire and another person was hurt while fleeing; six of the injured were minors, the youngest 11 years old, police said. Police Chief Lawrence Revell said more arrests are possible.
Why it matters: The gunfire struck a crowd leaving the game and homecoming celebrations outside Bragg Memorial Stadium, and police said investigators are still looking for others who may have been involved.
