IndiGo and Air India to move some Mumbai flights to new Navi Mumbai airport

Air India Express will start four daily domestic flights from Navi Mumbai in December 2026 and move its Oman services there from January 2027, followed by flights to Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha, Muscat and Sharjah by the Northern Summer 2027 season, Air India said. IndiGo will move 12 daily international departures, including all its current Mumbai flights to Bahrain, Riyadh, Jeddah, Kuwait, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta, between February and July 2027, according to a joint statement with the airport operator reported by The Hindu.

The airlines and the airport operator said carriers will keep their historical slots at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The first phase aims to move about 5 million passengers; the existing airport handles around 55 million a year.

Why it matters: Travelers flying through Mumbai will need to check which of the city's two airports their flight uses as the shift rolls out.
